Flagstaff Hunter Knife - 5 inch In Walnut
Crafted using CNC milling, allowing for blade geometries
that are impossible via conventional blade manufacture. Each blade small batch hardened (no more than
a dozen at a time) to ensure an optimal hardness of 60HRC. The blades are made from Takefu 67-layer San
Mai, with a VG10 core. VG10 is arguably one of Japan's finest stainless knife
steels. Each blade is individually
etched in a mixture of hydrochloric acid and ferric chloride before being
cleaned and buffed. The blade geometry
allows for a substantial and rigid spine, with a concave blade profile leading
to a razor-sharp cutting edge. The
handles are created from authentic Purdey gunstock walnut, that has been
pressure-reinforced with an epoxide polymer.
The strip of Audley red that sets the handles apart consists of
layered glass fibre. Each handle is
shaped, sanded, oiled and finished by hand.
The handle is secured using a combination of marine epoxy and custom
rivets applied with a 2-tonne press. The
sheaths are made in Devon from oak-tanned leather.
